- Protect your pipes from damage by turning off outdoor water and winterizing your irrigation system, if you have one.
- Clean your gutters to prevent leaks, flooding issues, and ice jams. Examine your downspouts to make sure they are moving water away from your home to prevent foundation problems.
- Get your furnace serviced to avoid being surprised by major heating issues this winter.
- Protect against potential fire by running your mower dry before stowing the mower in your garage or shed.
- Have your fireplace and chimney checked for built-up soot and solidified creosote that will eventually clog the interior of your flue or chimney, creating a serious fire hazard.
- Seal cracks around doors and windows to protect your home from moisture damage and heat loss during cold weather.
- Prune trees and shrubs away from your home to protect against structural damage and to keep rodents and bugs from nesting in the eaves.
- Visually inspect your roof and make arrangements to replace any loose, damaged, or missing shingles
